Mediated & Embodied Storytelling with IAN KALER

Research Project
Week 3 10:00 – 16:00

Participants will be looking at tools from Ian’s practice as a choreographer, filmmaker, and performer, working with movement-based live improvisation as well as on-screen performance.

The foundation of the shared process will focus on subtle modes of presence and embodiment that explore the body on a somatic level, as well as its graphic and figurative potential.

By framing the studio and workspace as a readymade set design and filmic background, participants will further explore the parallels and differences between performing for a live audience whilst simultaneously working for and with a video-captured moving image.

The research will also consider writing, text, and live voice-over as a means of supercharging narrative and embodied storytelling.
