bad ballet with ELIZABETH WARD, KEVIN FAY & ANDREW CHAMPLIN

Field Project
Week 4 10:00 – 16:00

bad ballet explores the complex legacies of classical Ballet through critical engagement and collective inquiry. It challenges conventional notions of beauty, virtuosity, and suffering in Ballet, focusing on non-elitist, non-virtuosic approaches to the art – its techniques and rituals. By deconstructing ballet’s hierarchies, the field project fosters inclusive, embodied excellence and collaborative growth, imagining new forms of practice across global contexts.

Importantly, this research is open to dilettantes and professionals alike. There is space for you, no matter your movement background. Our goal in the weeklong exchange is to ask many questions and lean into the creation and dancing of ballet, together.

"If you’re interested in taking part in this Open Level Field Research Project, please apply with a letter of motivation that responds to the following questions:

1. Tell us about yourself.

2. What draws you to this research?

3. Where are you in your relationship to ballet?

4. Energetically, is there an element of ballet that draws you most to the practice?

5. What are your research questions, interests pertaining to ballet?"
